E-Tourism Frontiers: Around the World in 2011

More Destinations- More Success Stories

From Athens to Amman, Kampala to Crete and further than ever before, 2011 has been a major year for E Tourism Frontiers. “We’ve seen increasing interest from emerging markets and even established markets to build and develop their online tourism knowledge and capacity”, said ETF CEO – Damian Cook.

E Tourism Frontiers, visited a number of new markets this year, including holding training seminars in Johannesburg, Doha, Athens and Crete, as well as a return visit to Amman in Jordan in October. “Its really encouraging to see destinations make the shift, to give online a much more needed focus and investment. It’s also great that destinations want to encourage their own tourism sector and stakeholders to move their marketing online”, said Cook.

He went onto say, “Our training seminars give very practical and easy to understand advice on why and how companies should intensify their online and social media marketing plans. We show them the benefits of doing more online and we outline case studies that show real business results from online media”.

Cook praised both South African Tourism and Cape Town Tourism for their commitment and focus to the online world. “SA Tourism and Cape Town Tourism are destinations that are very committed to the online space, both have invested heavily in their social media presence and we now see the destination becoming a major player in global online marketing of tourism through promotions such as Cape Town’s stellar work on Facebook and management tools such as South African Tourism’s new National Tourism Database.

This year the company hosted a major international online tourism Summit in Cape Town in September – the 4th E Tourism Africa Summit. It also organized another regional roadshow in East Africa visiting seven major tourism destinations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in May and June.

Also new for this year was the publication of the specially created – Online Tourism Textbook. - “E Tourism Frontier’s Guide to Online Tourism”. The 140 page textbook gives a very easy to follow guide and simple explanation on how tourism companies can move their business online, both in marketing, operations and e-commerce. The textbook also highlights case studies from a range of tourism businesses that have invested in online marketing with great results.

“I am delighted that we have trained over 1,000 people this year across the globe and 2012 is set to be even bigger with more destinations wanting to hold training seminars. I am very pleased to see that the power of online marketing is now being understood by a lot more markets around the world”, said Cook.
